Sixty years of flying across the Atlantic Ocean, and seventy years of history, have shaped the Grupo SATA. Over these years, and particularly in the last decade, the Grupo SATA has grown steadily, and with increasing success.
Grupo SATA has come a long way from its origins in the 1940´s.

Airport Assistance
It inherits the significant know-how of SATA Air Açores, the airline that assisted all the passengers that landed in the Azores airports, since 1947.
The Assistance or Handling business area conquered an autonomous juridical and commercial status by the end of 2007 and won his own self government.
Nowadays it has a more organized and functional structure to secure an efficient and professional response to the demands of all airlines that land in the Azorean ground.

The SATA Services aims to develop its activity providing support and advice in financial, administrative, commercial and information technologies, for all its companies.
It provides a specialized service guided by high quality and efficiency standards, allowing the Group companies to have greater focus on its business and to improve the services provided to its customers.

SATA Aerodromes
Ground Support Operations
Founded in 2005, it runs the Aerodromes in four of the nine Azorean islands.
It was bestowed a legacy of know-how gained in over half a century of ground support operations.
SATA Aerodromes now runs the Aerodromes of Pico, Graciosa, Corvo and São Jorge islands.
SATA Express
Canada… Just a Hug Away
SATA Express has been operating charter flights between the Azores and Canada since 1985. SATA International began operating on this route in January 2000 using modern Airbus 310 with 220 passenger capacities.
In 2003, we also began flying from Lisbon, Porto and Faro to Toronto. Montreal became another SATA destination, with summertime flights to Ponta Delgada and Lisbon.
SATA Express’ constant market presence has leveraged customer relationships, making it the first choice for travellers from the Azores and mainland Portugal to Canada.

As Quick as a Thought
Azores Express has been operating charter flights between the United States of America and the Azores since 1985. SATA International has been operating on this route since January 2000 using modern Airbus 310 with 220 passenger capacities.
Flights between Lisbon and Boston began in 2001 – with direct Summer flights, and flights via Ponta Delgada in Winter – and between Porto and Boston via Ponta Delgada in 2004.
Azores Express has sustained its leadership position though superior service and knowledge of the markets in which it operates.
SATA Internacional
From the Azores to the World
A subsidiary of SATA Air Açores and licensed to operate outside the Azores, SATA Internacional originated from the conversion of the airline Oceanair, purchased by SATA Air Açores in 1994.
After 50 years of business in the Azores islands, SATA began operating non-regular charter flights for domestic and foreign tourist operators in 1995 using a Boeing 737/300.
The company’s name changed from Oceanair to SATA Internacional on 19 March 1998, and on 17 June the company received its air operator’s certificate, thus becoming an independent c

It was certainly pioneering wings in mind and the recollection that the first aircraft to cross the North Atlantic landed on the waters of the archipelago that led a group of Azoreans to lay the foundation of SATA Air Açores by setting up "Sociedade Açoriana de Estudos Aéreos" on August 21st, 1941.
Six years later, on June 15th, 1947 a Beechcraft aircraf, CS-TAA, with 7 passengers began company operations with a flight between the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria.
