Grupo SATA grows in last quarter of 2009
Published on 14 January, 2010In the last quarter of 2009, Grupo SATA saw consolidated growth (SATA Air Açores and SATA Internacional) of 5.3% in the number of passengers transported and 5.26% in the number of flights compared to the same period in 2008.
From October to December 2009, SATA Internacional transported 170,288 passengers, 6.3% more than in the previous year. There were also 78 more flights, corresponding to 5.7% growth, compared to the same period in 2008.
However, this growth in the last quarter was not enough to offset the effects of the world economic crisis. As such, in annual terms, SATA Internacional saw a slight drop (‐1.5%) in the number of passengers transported, with the same number of flights (7,083).
Despite the slight decrease in the number of passengers transported, some SATA Internacional routes did see growth, such as flights to Canada (6.9% more passengers transported and 4.9% more flights). Domestic flights to and from the Azores also saw quite positive performance, given the current economic backdrop. The number of flights grew 0.9% (27 more flights). Passenger traffic saw a slight decrease of ‐1%.
SATA Air Açores saw 3.7% growth in the number of passengers transported in the last quarter compared to the same period in 2008 (from 102,505 to 106,262), and 5% growth in the number of flights (3,757 more flights). In annual terms, SATA Air Açores had 1.5% more flights than in 2008. The total number of passengers transported fell slightly by ‐1.2%, with SATA Air Açores transporting 6,165 fewer passengers than in 2008.
