Student Passengers

Eligibility and Documentation

The student fare is applicable to student passengers aged 12-26 years at the beginning of the trip, travelling between their place of study and place of residence and which fall under the following conditions:

- National students who reside in Azores and study in an educational establishment in Mainland/Madeira or vice-versa
Documentation: citizen card with address confirmation or income tax card from the place of residence in Portugal and identity card/passport as well as the student certificate issued and stamped by the educational establishment which certifies the enrollment in the school year.

- Foreign students who reside in Azores and study in an educational establishment in Mainland/Madeira or vice-versa
Documentation: identity card/passport or other identity document from the country of origin and the income tax card from the place of residence in Portugal plus a residence authorization issued by the Portuguese Authorities - SEF - or a residence certificate issued by a City Hall stating where the passenger resides, as well as the student certificate issued and stamped by the educational establishment which certifies the enrollment in the school year.

- Students who reside in Azores and study in an educational establishment in another state of the European Union
Documentation: citizen card with address confirmation or income tax card from the place of residence in the Azores and identity card/passport and residence authorization - if applicable - plus the student certificate issued and stamped by the educational establishment which certifies the enrollment in the school year.    

- University/college students from Azores or Madeira who need to travel for further training
Documentation: a proof issued by the university mentioning the importance of such training, as well as an attendance certificate issued by the entity responsible for the training.

The passenger must be enrolled in an officially recognized educational establishment for at least one school year.

A Student certificate (available online) must be presented duly completed, signed and stamped by the educational establishment. The certificate is valid for 1 year. The last school year certificate is valid for travel to make the enrolement in the new school year/first travel (until September 30th) or to attend exams or to make an internship part of the course curriculum. The certificate must prove the above situations. Internships that are not part of the course curriculum do not qualify to obtain the student fare.

The master degrees included on the courses ruled by the Bologne Treaty are also eligible for the student fare if all the other conditions are met.

When the income tax number card does not mention fiscal district number and name, the passenger must also prove their residence through a declaration of finance.

Students must produce a student certificate completely filled in and duly signed/stamped by an establishment in which the student is enrolled, as well as an income tax number and an identity card/passport or citizen card at check-in. Lack of this may cause the ticket to be rebooked at the higher applicable fare.
                            

Refund After the Trip

Passengers meeting the requirements for student fares, except for the student certificate, may purchase the applicable fare and then request a refund within 3 months from the date of commencement of travel.
